Suffolk Perinatal Mental Health Service

The Perinatal Mental Health Service is a multi-disciplinary mental health service for pregnant and postnatal women with severe and complex mental illness. Women who are registered with a GP in Suffolk and those having their maternity care at Ipswich Hospital or West Suffolk Hospital can be referred and women can be referred from preconception until the end of the sixth postnatal month.

NSFT has been granted additional funding to expand our team of professionals focused on the delivery of this important intervention to include those with moderate mental illness

Our service works collaboratively with women, their families and other professionals, to plan care for pregnancy and the postpartum period. We work in partnership with maternity services, children and families social services, primary care and with other mental health services.

Mental Health Nurse (2 posts)


Supporting the existing Band 7 nursing staff you will be working with service users in our expanded service across Suffolk. You will plan and undertake the delivery of patient-centred care for an agreed caseload, ensuring the recording of activity is maintained at all times. While you will have minimal day to day supervision, you will be working within a multi-disciplinary team who will provide the direction and support you need.

As a nurse, qualified at degree level, you will be able to demonstrate your ongoing professional development. You will have proven experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team, effective risk assessment skills within mental health and preferably some experience of working in a community setting. Alongside good communication skills you will be able to show flexibility in your approach to changing needs and delivery of the most appropriate intervention.
