Jodie is now 16 and has been known to us in the Eating Disorder team for two years. When we met her she was very unwell and significantly underweight and her body was struggling to cope. She was referred to our team by her GP and immediately admitted to the local paediatric ward for treatment. Our team visited Josie and her family on the ward daily throughout her 10 day admission to engage with Jodie and her family to establish a therapeutic rapport.
On discharge, our whole team came together and we continued to work intensively with her and the family with the aim of empowering the family and preventing the need for a further separation from home. We encouraged her family to take things one day at a time, contacting them daily to provide support and meeting with Josie at least twice a week. Jodie’s family shared stories of her difficulty to manage her eating, extreme anxiety around meals, persistent exercise, and Josie’s very limited insight into the severity of the condition. Jodie required constant support and supervision from her parents to be able to manage her eating disorder, and they have said that without the guidance and intervention from our team they would not have been able to do this.
With the support of the specialist eating disorder team over the past two years, Jodie has been able to make remarkable progress in her recovery journey. She is now back at school full-time, her wellbeing is much improved and most importantly she can recognise that recovery can give her far more than the eating disorder ever promised to, something which two years ago she never thought would be possible.
Jodie’s key worker in the team has said: “Working with people like Jodie is the reason why I do my job. When she first presented to our team she was so poorly and we were very concerned that she was going to need an admission to a specialist unit due to how unwell she was. However, Jodie’s parents have been incredible at offering her the support that we have advised and have taken on board everything that we have told them. I was fortunate enough to be part of Jodie’s treatment from the very beginning and built a very good relationship with her early on. Seeing how hard she has worked in the past few months and knowing that I have been part of her journey is a great feeling. I am so proud of her for how far she has come”.

This update service is an annual subscription at a cost of £13 to you. This will enable the Trust to have instant online access to your DBS record, with your consent, and so will remove the need for you to have to apply for this repeat check again.
