Inpatient Mental Health Roles - Wedgwood House, Bury St Edmunds

Northgate Ward

Northgate provides treatment for adults who are experiencing acute mental health problems. The service is recovery focused utilising a range of treatment, therapy and support in order to help our service users return to well-being and independence.  There strong links with Southgate Ward and the Home Treatment and IDT teams

Southgate Ward

Southgate is our adult mixed gender assessment and triage ward, with high volumes of service user admissions/discharges and operates inter and intra agency working. This busy, fast paced environment also provides support to the Section 136 suite, working closely with colleagues from other services.


About You

For this role, you will be friendly and have a keen interest in people, with an ability to communicate well. You will need to be enthusiastic and conscientious and do everything you can to provide patient centred care. You will be able to meet deadlines to ensure that people get what they need when they need it.  You will be compassionate, empathetic and sensitive in your approach to people who may be distressed or have a challenging manner.

In all roles we offer a supportive team environment where you will develop your own knowledge of psychosocial interventions and positive health promotion, with first hand experience of engaging service users within an inpatient setting.

About Us

Wedgwood House is a mental health inpatient unit situated behind the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds. The three wards provide assessment and treatment services for acute mental disorders and rehabilitation including depression, bipolar, psychosis, dementia and crisis resolution:

Our primary focus is on collaborative working; placing great emphasis on the assessment/recovery model. Many aspects relating to service user recovery is reflected within the assessment tools the patients and staff use and the philosophy that underpins patient centred care.

Our staff support network includes protected time and unit wellbeing sessions.  You will be given regular supervision and have an opportunity to use the onsite gym. There are excellent developmental opportunities should you wish to progress.
